Welcome to Morris Minor Funerals -  'Trudy the Traveller'

Midlands based nationwide service 02476 399296

The Morris Minor Hearse Company was established in 2011, and Trudy has been providing her service to the bereaved with her former owners Andrew and Judith Bywater.

In June 2018 'Trudy' and the business were acquired by alternative hearse hire specialists Volkswagen Funerals to allow Trudy to continue doing what she does best catering for the needs of fellow Morris Minor owners and classic car enthusiasts in general.

Trudy the Traveller provides some comfort to think that our final journey will be made in a classic car and a Morris Minor in particular.

Relatives will have the reassurance that their loved one will be in the company of fellow enthusiasts, in the only purpose-built Morris Minor hearse in the country, totally rebuilt and converted with loving care by Andrew over 2 years to a very high standard.

Our drivers are dressed appropriately, mature, helpful and courteous, and driving an immaculately presented car.

The Morris hearse is available throughout the country and you can be assured of high standards, compassion and care. Clare and Michelle of Volkswagen funerals have been providing a successful Volkswagen service for the last 12 years and are well known and renowned within the funeral profession.

TRUDY IS NOW AVAILABLE AS PART OF VOLKSWAGEN FUNERALS FLEET TO ALLOW JUDITH AND ANDREW TO RETIRE. We thank them for their service to the bereaved and wish them a happy retirement.

"Trudy" the Traveller  DEA 384C

Trudy was built and registered in 1965. She was supplied by Colmore Depot, based at West Bromwich in the West Midlands. She led a normal life, becoming gradually run-down through daily use, until Andrew Bywater (pictured) bought her as a complete wreck in April 2009. It took two and a half years of painstaking work to restore her to show condition.

Green and Eco Funerals - Our Morris Minor hearse, is an appropriate choice for anyone considering an ecologically sympathetic and ethical funeral. This car has effectively been "re-cycled", having been completely rebuilt, creating a smaller carbon footprint than a new-build traditional hearse. Part of the structure is made from Ash, a natural material, which would be in sympathy with, for example, a woodland funeral. One of the major restorers, and suppliers of Morris Minor parts, Charles Ware's Morris Minor Centre at Bath, was presented the the National Green Apple award in 2003, which recognised their contribution to sustainable car preservation, and provision of employment opportunities in the third world, via their factory in Sri-Lanka.

  • Frequently asked questions:
  • How far do you travel?
  • We have  nationwide  coverage, service may be limited in poor winter weather so please check with us.
  • Is a Morris Minor Traveller big enough?
  • As you will appreciate, a Morris Minor Traveller is not a large vehicle, so there are inevitably some limitations due to the internal space available: June 2018 We will be making some changes to allow for larger caskets and more floral tributes, we will advise when this has been completed.
  • Coffins/Caskets,  Currently the maximum (external) size of a traditional-shaped coffin that we can accommodate is 78 inches long, 24 inches across the shoulder, and 15 inches deep. We are currently unable to accommodate caskets.
  • Floral tributes, We are happy to carry one or possibly two tributes on the coffin, but these can cover no more than two-thirds of the length of the coffin, and can be no higher than 8 inches. We can also carry one medium display behind the rear seat of the car. For additional flowers, you may need to discuss with your Funeral Director, the use of a seperate "flower car." June 2018, we plan to make some changes to enable more tributes to be catered for where possible. Frames (letters) can not currently be carried in this hearse.
  • There is a seat behind the driver for either the funeral director or one family member.
